The hurricane heavily battered the island, damaging more than 80% of its homes and leaving nearly 1,000 people homeless. Because of the urgency of the situation, the site –located at www.grandturkhurricanerelief.org – was constructed in less than a day. The site started ranking well practically overnight, leading to numerous donations of goods and clothing for islanders as well as inquiries from people interested in traveling to Grand Turk to provide direct assistance.
