SALEM, N.H., Sept. 30, 2009 – The Salem Animal Rescue League today launched a completely redesigned Web site that was donated by New Hampshire-based marketing and design firm Danconia Media.
The site – located at www.sarl-nh.org – was donated as part of Danconia’s Web design grant program for Granite State nonprofits and charities. It was built with a highly user-friendly content management system that will allow SARL members to add and modify content within moments. Danconia is also providing hosting services for SARL free of charge.
“They captured exactly what we were looking for in a very user-friendly Web site,” SARL President Lori Bertrand said. “I am delighted with the outcome of this project, as it will be used by our volunteers, staff, donors and adopters to advance our shelter’s operations and save many more lives of companion animals.”
On the site, visitors can see pictures and videos featuring dogs and cats that are currently available for adoption, donate money to the organization by check or credit card, see upcoming events, sign up to be a volunteer, apply to be a cat or dog foster parent and get pet care information, among many other things. The site also integrates SARL’s Twitter and Facebook pages, which the nonprofit uses to communicate with its supporters.
As part of the donation, Danconia Web developers installed CiviCRM, a robust open-source program that allows SARL to easily manage donations, volunteers and events from a single interface. They also integrated the PetPoint Animal Management System, which automates the process of adding animals ready for adoption to the Web site’s database.
Danconia picked the rescue league as a Web design grant recipient after being contacted by SARL member Lorrie Perron. They requested an easy-to-use site that would be useful to volunteers, donors and potential pet adopters alike.
“Our new Web site will give us the ability to reach out to so many people in many ways, including enhancement of our surrender and adoption programs, education, fundraising and our Capital Giving Campaign,” said Ray Denis, SARL’s director of development. “Overall, we will have the ability to promote SARL in ways that we have never been able to before without this important contemporary tool.”
SARL is the second organization to receive a Web site from the grant program. This summer, Danconia launched a site for Pembroke-based Community Services Council of New Hampshire. That site features about 15 pages of content highlighting CSCNH’s many services that assist homeless, elderly and developmentally disabled residents throughout the state.
“There are a lot of great nonprofits in New Hampshire, but most of them lack the funding and the resources to effectively market themselves online,” Danconia Vice President William Sweeney said. “We started the Web design grant program so they can use their Web presences to solicit donations, gain volunteers and communicate with the public more effectively.”
Danconia is now accepting applications from other New Hampshire nonprofits and charities; the deadline is revolving. The program is intended for in-state organizations, but out-of-state applicants will be considered if they provide significant services to New Hampshire residents.
