Laconia Motorcycle Week Gets Web Site Redesigned by Danconia Media
LACONIA, N.H., Feb. 1, 2010 In preparation for this year's Laconia Motorcycle Week, the rally's organizers have called on Danconia Media to design a Web site that will act as a promotional and informational hub.
The overhauling of the Web site located at www.laconiamcweek.com has already begun, and the new site is expected to be launched in the coming weeks. The site will be equipped with a highly user-friendly content management system (CMS) that will make it easy for the organization to maintain it in-house.
When choosing to redesign our site, it was important to find a company that had a local feel with big city ideas and experience; that's what we got with Danconia, Jennifer Anderson, director of the Laconia Motorcycle Week Association, said. They exceeded our expectations in being able to understand our global concept and synthesize both design and functionality to create a great site.
As part of the Web design package, Laconia Motorcycle Week is getting custom graphic design, CMS development, base search engine optimization and social media integration. Jonathan Simoni, Danconia's project manager, said he's excited to help promote a historic event that brings needed tourism dollars into New Hampshire.
"We're really excited to be a part of Laconia Motorcycle Week. This is a great rally that offers something for everyone," Simoni said. We're more than happy to help get the word out about it.
The rally, in its 87th year, will be from June 12 20. Information about the rally's attractions, schedule, lodging, vendors, sponsors and more will be posted as soon as the new site is launched.

Saloom Furniture Company Launches Redesigned Web Site, Revamped Branding
WINCHENDON, Mass., Feb. 1, 2009 Saloom Furniture Company, a manufacturer of premium contemporary, country and transitional dining furniture, has launched a completely overhauled Web site and rebranding to match the quality and style of its products.
The site located at www.saloom.com was designed by New Hampshire-based Danconia Media using a highly user-friendly content management system (CMS) that Saloom plans to use to maintain it in-house. It features a robust cataloging system that allows staffers to add, remove and modify products and categories with minimal training.
The enhanced Internet presence allows Saloom to more effectively market its dining tables, chairs, bar tables, counter tables and case pieces to potential customers and vendors online. Using the site, visitors can easily find samples of Saloom's wide variety of furniture styles and find an authorized dealer in their areas. Danconia also produced hundreds of pages of content crafted to rank highly on major search engines like Google, Yahoo! and Bing.
We've always felt that we had a powerful story to tell of high quality, American-made, custom-order dining furniture but our Web site was 10 years old, built in-house, and didn't give us the visibility on the Internet that we needed, Becki Gould, Saloom's marketing director, said. We felt that, if consumers discovered our products, we could sell them on the quality craftsmanship and design, and direct them to the retail store, which would ultimately lead to increased sales.
She added: We hired Danconia Media for our redesign because we felt they had a proven track record of success at good Web site design and a special strength in search engine optimization that was critical to this project.
As part of the package, Saloom also received a redesigned logo and high-end business cards to match its new branding. During the design process, Danconia made sure to produce collateral that would appeal to Saloom's varying target consumers, whose tastes range from rustic to modern to anywhere in between.
We enjoyed the challenge of bringing together Saloom's varied style offerings into one branding package, William Sweeney, Danconia's vice president, said. We're confident that our solution will ultimately lead to increased revenues for Saloom.
Saloom, based in Winchendon, was founded in 1982 by Peter and Linda Saloom. Originally run out of a basement, the company now has two factories with 100,000 square feet of manufacturing space and products distributed throughout the United States and Canada. The company has four main product lines: Saloom New England, New Castle, City Scapes and Gardner Contemporary.

The Importance of Long-Tail Search Explained
Now you could invest a lot of money into showing up prominently for that search and, yes, doing so would probably increase your sales figures provided your website is designed well and your products are worthwhile. But if you're looking for a more affordable and quicker way to go about it, you'll go after the terms that have significantly lower search volumes but, when added up, will account for most of your business. Instead of concentrating on a few big terms like couch, couches and leather couch, you could go after more targeted terms like green sofa couch, couch for living room and white couch living room and see a bigger return on your investment.

Danconia Media Receives Community Service Award from Salem Animal Rescue League
SARL presented Danconia the award during its annual Kimball Family Farm Autumn Brunch event held Sunday. In its recognition, SARL praised Danconia for developing an online tool that has made it easier for the animal rescue league to communicate with volunteers and supporters, raise money for its planned relocation and building project, and find homes for abandoned pets.
About 60 guests attended the event, which was held at the home of Tim and Valorie Hayes, a SARL board member, in North Andover, Mass. Before SARL's awards were handed out, attendees watched an hour-long presentation by Vickie Constantine Croke, an author, journalist and host of The Secret Life of Animals on NECN. Guests were also updated on SARL's Capital Giving Campaign and building project.
The most outstanding feature of the day was our fundraising effort that resulted in $87,000 in proceeds for our Capital Giving Campaign and general fund, said Ray Denis, SARL's director of development.
SARL launched its new site located at www.sarl-nh.org in October. The site features a highly user-friendly content management system that allows SARL members to add and modify content within moments, a pet management system that makes adding new animals available for adoption to its database simple, and a robust CRM application that allows the organization manage donations, volunteers and events from a single interface.
They captured exactly what we were looking for in a very user-friendly Web site, SARL President Lori Bertrand said shortly after the site's launching. I am delighted with the outcome of this project, as it will be used by our volunteers, staff, donors and adopters to advance our shelter's operations and save many more lives of companion animals.st
The site was donated as part of Danconia's Web design grant program specifically for New Hampshire nonprofits and charities. The program is intended for in-state organizations, but out-of-state applicants will be considered if they provide significant services for Granite State residents. For more information or to fill out an online application form, visit the program's Web site at www.nhwebdesign.org.

Salem Animal Rescue League Receives Donated Web Site from Danconia Media
The site located at www.sarl-nh.org was donated as part of Danconia's Web design grant program for Granite State nonprofits and charities. It was built with a highly user-friendly content management system that will allow SARL members to add and modify content within moments. Danconia is also providing hosting services for SARL free of charge.
They captured exactly what we were looking for in a very user-friendly Web site, SARL President Lori Bertrand said. I am delighted with the outcome of this project, as it will be used by our volunteers, staff, donors and adopters to advance our shelter's operations and save many more lives of companion animals.
On the site, visitors can see pictures and videos featuring dogs and cats that are currently available for adoption, donate money to the organization by check or credit card, see upcoming events, sign up to be a volunteer, apply to be a cat or dog foster parent and get pet care information, among many other things. The site also integrates SARL's Twitter and Facebook pages, which the nonprofit uses to communicate with its supporters.
As part of the donation, Danconia Web developers installed CiviCRM, a robust open-source program that allows SARL to easily manage donations, volunteers and events from a single interface. They also integrated the PetPoint Animal Management System, which automates the process of adding animals ready for adoption to the Web site's database.
Danconia picked the rescue league as a Web design grant recipient after being contacted by SARL member Lorrie Perron. They requested an easy-to-use site that would be useful to volunteers, donors and potential pet adopters alike.
Our new Web site will give us the ability to reach out to so many people in many ways, including enhancement of our surrender and adoption programs, education, fundraising and our Capital Giving Campaign, said Ray Denis, SARL's director of development. Overall, we will have the ability to promote SARL in ways that we have never been able to before without this important contemporary tool.
SARL is the second organization to receive a Web site from the grant program. This summer, Danconia launched a site for Pembroke-based Community Services Council of New Hampshire. That site features about 15 pages of content highlighting CSCNH's many services that assist homeless, elderly and developmentally disabled residents throughout the state.
There are a lot of great nonprofits in New Hampshire, but most of them lack the funding and the resources to effectively market themselves online, Danconia Vice President William Sweeney said. We started the Web design grant program so they can use their Web presences to solicit donations, gain volunteers and communicate with the public more effectively.
Danconia is now accepting applications from other New Hampshire nonprofits and charities; the deadline is revolving. The program is intended for in-state organizations, but out-of-state applicants will be considered if they provide significant services to New Hampshire residents. For more information or to fill out an application form, visit the program's Web site at www.nhwebdesign.org.

WoodNet Market Council Launches New Site Donated by Danconia Media
BARNSTEAD, N.H., Oct. 27, 2009 WoodNet Market Council, an organization dedicated to responsible forestry and green building, today launched a new Web site donated by New Hampshire design and marketing firm Danconia Media.
The site located at www.woodnetusa.org was built using open-source technology and a highly user-friendly content management system that allows WoodNet's members to easily add and modify content within minutes. It features a clean, minimal design and seven pages of content highlighting WoodNet's programs. The site also has a member directory, which currently lists nearly 100 organizations.
WoodNet works to unite manufacturers, builders, buyers and sellers to promote sustainable building and forestry practices. Its members work to get companies certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). WoodNet offers reduced rates for small businesses seeking FSC Chain of Custody certification and assistance in preparing for annual FSC audits and developing required controls.
Danconia Vice President William Sweeney said his company donated the site because green building and responsible forestry are important to bettering the environment. Having a quality Web presence, he said, will help WoodNet in its mission of promoting good stewardship.
It's important to be environmentally responsible, and having good online resources is essential for any organization trying to make a difference today, Sweeney said. We look forward to doing more projects in the future that promote green initiatives.
The WoodNet site is the latest in several Danconia projects involving green-building companies. Late last year, Danconia launched a completely redesigned site for Young Furniture Mfg., a Bow, N.H.-based manufacturer of FSC-certified cabinets. And earlier this year, the firm designed a site for J.S. Benson Woodworking & Design, which produces FSC windows and doors from its Brattleboro, Vt., factory.

Google local listing ads: The beginning of the end for free local listings?
Google has launched a new advertising platform geared toward businesses targeting consumers in their local areas. The program, which is rolling out in the San Francisco and San Diego areas, differs from Google Adwords in that businesses are charged a flat monthly fee based on their categories and locations rather than having to shell out dollars for every visitor who clicks their ads.
The listings will appear above unpaid local listings when users conduct searches as well as in Google Maps. With the listings, advertisers get a basic ad displaying their company's information, address and contact details, a unique phone number that Google will use to track calls and regular reports on conversion. It's unclear what the pricing will be for businesses in New Hampshire and New England, but it'll likely be based on search volume.
