How to Get a Google+ Business Profile
Since launching just over two weeks ago, Google+ has seen remarkable momentum. Official numbers haven't been released, but all accounts indicate that it's growing at an impressive rate. There are already millions of members using the service and its Android app. Early reviews of Google's latest stab at social networking have been favorable.
Given its popularity, businesses have been anxious to figure out how to use Google+ as a marketing tool. After initially telling brands to hold off on creating accounts, Google has fast-tracked plans to launch business pages because of the enormous interest in the platform. Many businesses that have created profiles have had their accounts purged; Ford Motor Co. is an apparent exception.
Google plans to award businesses with test accounts starting next week. Anyone interested has until Friday (July 15) to apply. To be considered, fill out this brief form.

Facebook’s PageRank Higher Than Google’s
Yesterday, Google rolled out its first PageRank tool bar update in almost half a year. The most interesting development: Google's own PageRank dropped from 10 to 9, while Facebook's remains at 10.
While it may not mean much, it's intriguing that one of Google's biggest rivals is considered more important according to its own rating system. The rivalry is no secret: Earlier this year, it was revealed that Facebook hired a public relations firm to pitch negative stories about Google's privacy policies to news outlets.

Google Unleashes Second PageRank Update for 2011
For the second time this year, Google has updated its public PageRank toolbar data. PageRank is the method that Google uses to determine the importance of sites; rankings are between 0 and 10. The higher a site's PageRank rating, the more likely it is to rank prominently for competitive search phrases (assuming the site has good SEO).
The last PageRank update was this January. That update was the first since April 2010. SEOs keep track of PageRank using FireFox and Chrome plugins that display it in their browsers as a little green bar. Our home page went from a PR4 to a PR5. PageRank is determined solely using a site's inbound link profile.

What Does the Google +1 Button Mean?
If you're using Google while signed into your account, you might be seeing buttons that say +1" next to search results. When you click the button, you'll be asked to confirm whether you want to recommend the link to your friends. As Google puts it: The 1+ button is shorthand for 'this is pretty cool' or 'you should check this out.' Click +1 to publicly give something your stamp of approval. Your +1's can help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search."

Joomla vs. WordPress: Why Not Both?
Joomla! and WordPress are two of the world's most popular content management platforms. When businesses and organizations redesign their websites, they often have trouble deciding between the two systems, both of which have millions of users. Since they're both open-source and free, cost is not the deciding factor. If you're building a traditional website with a blog or social networking component, you may want to use Joomla! and WordPress together.

Twitter Starts Email Notifications for @ Replies, Mentions
If you're on Twitter, you have likely started getting email notifications whenever a user replies to one of your tweets or mentions your username. Twitter previously only sent email alerts when a user received direct messages or gained a new follower. The move is a clear attempt to make the service more user-friendly for casual users. Many replies have gone unnoticed simply because users don't know to log in to check for them.
