Why is Google slow today?
Google seems to be having some troubles today. The home page is inaccessible at the moment, and performance was uncharacteristically slow this morning. Could it have anything to do with this story from CNET?

Have Your Competition Advertise for You
It may sound crazy, but it's not. If you're so inclined, you can have your competition's radio, TV, print and billboard advertising work in your favor. How to Get a Google+ Business Profile
Since launching just over two weeks ago, Google+ has seen remarkable momentum. Official numbers haven't been released, but all accounts indicate that it's growing at an impressive rate. There are already millions of members using the service and its Android app. Early reviews of Google's latest stab at social networking have been favorable.
Given its popularity, businesses have been anxious to figure out how to use Google+ as a marketing tool. After initially telling brands to hold off on creating accounts, Google has fast-tracked plans to launch business pages because of the enormous interest in the platform. Many businesses that have created profiles have had their accounts purged; Ford Motor Co. is an apparent exception.
Google plans to award businesses with test accounts starting next week. Anyone interested has until Friday (July 15) to apply. To be considered, fill out this brief form.

Facebook’s PageRank Higher Than Google’s
Yesterday, Google rolled out its first PageRank tool bar update in almost half a year. The most interesting development: Google's own PageRank dropped from 10 to 9, while Facebook's remains at 10.
While it may not mean much, it's intriguing that one of Google's biggest rivals is considered more important according to its own rating system. The rivalry is no secret: Earlier this year, it was revealed that Facebook hired a public relations firm to pitch negative stories about Google's privacy policies to news outlets.
